Top 5 Marvel Movies (So Far)
With this weekend's release of Doctor Strange, I was doing some rearranging on my Letterboxd MCU movie ranking list, and I honestly am impressed by the fact that there are officially 14 Marvel films out now, with more on the way next year. Who knew superheroes would take Hollywood by storm and grow into cinematic universes? Today I thought I would share my top 5 MCU films with you, which may raise some eyebrows (I know there are a LOT of fans of The Avengers out there) but hey, a girl likes what she likes!
5. Doctor Strange (2016)
Well, hello there, newcomer! Let's face it, with my love for fantasy and magic there was a pretty slim chance Doctor Strange was going to miss this top 5 list. I had such a fun time at the movie theatre yesterday watching this one, and even though there are some things that could have been handled better, I think we can definitely call this one a success. I do have a spoiler-free review of this movie on my channel, so if you're interested in my detailed thoughts—check out the video!
Another one from this year making my list! The third Captain America movie really felt more like an Avengers movie to me, bringing in quite a few familiar faces as well as introducing us to a couple of very exciting new ones. Once again, not a perfect film, but a very entertaining one, and so far I'm definitely enjoying Marvel Phase 3. I also have a review of this one on my channel, so if you missed it—take a look at the video.
The movie that made me realize superhero films can be great is still going strong in my top 5. I can't believe it's been 8 years since it came out! I may have been team Cap during Civil War, but Robert Downey Jr. as the self-proclaimed "genius billionaire playboy philanthropist" Tony Stark will always have my heart.
After not being the biggest fan of Captain America: The First Avenger, I didn't have very high hopes for the second installment. To my surprise, I absolutely loved it! It had the perfect balance between fun, action, and personal drama that made me really connect with this movie. And it actually made me care about Captain America, which I didn't think would ever happen... but let's be honest, it's all about Bucky Barnes for me.
And still, my favorite MCU film (and one of my favorite movies of 2014) is Guardians of the Galaxy. It's also the only MCU film I've seen more than twice, and let me tell you, every time I watch it I love it just as much as the first time. It makes me laugh that I actually was considering not seeing this one at all before it came out (I know, silly me)—I went in with zero expectations, but ended up being completely blown away. I can't even begin to describe how excited I am about the sequel coming out next year!
Well, this was my MCU top 5! What does yours look like?
